The often-cited government-run Canadian healthcare system that is used as support for Obamacare to show how well a government run system can work, was apparently not working well enough for government employee and Canadian Premier Danny Williams to trust his heart surgery to.
Early this year, Canadian official Mr. Williams (Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador) opted to skip his right to free Canadian healthcare and travel to Florida in the United States to have an advanced surgical procedure done. When asked why Mr. Williams opted for his surgery in the U.S. versus Canada, even though this procedure was also available in Canada, Mr. Williams simply stated, “This was my heart, my choice and my health. I did not sign away my right to get the best possible health care for myself when I entered politics.”
So, when the rubber meets the road…even Canadian officials will abandon their own government healthcare system when it comes down to living or dying.
I wonder where the future Mr. Williams’ of the world will go now that Obamacare has passed?
I suppose we’ll have something new to talk about with our Canadian neighbors now that we will be as inefficient, backlogged and expensive as the Canadian system.
