An old friend of mine and I were backpacking in Sequoia National Park many (too many) years ago and through a series of things that went wrong, we found ourselves in trouble. When it was all over and the resulting problem was solved, we counted eight instances where had a decision or our luck went in the other direction, the entire cascade of failures would have been prevented. Ironically, after a few of these “wrong ways” occurred, we found ourselves laughing at our misfortune.
It was as if some consciousness was purposely making each event fall, “the other way.” After finding a sort of twisted humor in each instance of repeated bad luck, I told my friend, “I’d be disappointed if things suddenly started going our way, because it wouldn’t be funny anymore.”

I took a pause in blogging recently because I’ve been overwhelmed with a raft of things going wrong in our economy and Washington. It’s to the point now where I simply assume whatever would be the worst thing for Obama and our government to do…whatever would hurt the economy the most…whatever would punish the responsible among us the most brutally…that is exactly what the government will do.
I am now at the point where I have taken such a brutal beating from my own government that I have to laugh at every instance of their brutality because I don’t know any other way to react. The frequency and depth of their war against me, and every other responsible American has been so deep and so devastating that I can only defend my sanity with a sick and sarcastic sort of humor towards it all.
So I add to my blog today the latest in responsible American brutality with Obama’s current program to provide/print more money/destroy the dollar/go deeper into debt that will enable unemployed individuals who are behind on their mortgages some of your money, and my money, to make their payments. Obama has decided to brutalize responsible homeowners and renters by forcing them to pay for a bailout of unemployed individuals who have fallen behind on their payments and are in danger of losing their house.
These are not people in danger of losing their lives or in danger of losing their freedom or losing their family…no…just a house…just a “thing”…a thing they can live perfectly well without by renting. Yet, we will be brutally assaulted by our own government to make sure these individuals keep their “thing.”
A “thing” my government won’t let renters who can afford them like me purchase because they insist on keeping home prices artificially inflated while at the same time keeping people in their homes who can’t afford them and should be renters instead. The entire system is completely upside down.
I just have to laugh…uncomfortably.
