The Power of Words

The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation
~Lenin

Our government has ordered up both of these and they are on the way…super sized.

Republican, Democrat…it doesn’t matter, I didn’t create this blog to support either party in a single party system.  I created this  blog to communicate the dangers of Big Government, regardless of who’s sitting in the Big Chair.  This post is dedicated to words.  Blogs are all about words.  Bloggers can use media like video to support their discussion but ultimately they are tasked with communicating the message effectively.

Words, to be effective must lead to action.  This blog is my first action, to move my words beyond just those who know me.

I decided to post a list of quotes that might show the power of words.  Words mean nothing without action, so never assume that someone using words doesn’t plan to act on them.  If they have the power to act, they will.  We have seen it in the long past, the recent past, and we see it today.

The Republicans vastly expanded the reach and power and intrusiveness of government, and they have passed the torch to the Democrats who continue the march down Nationalization Avenue to our next stop, Fascism City.

Abuse of words has been the great instrument of sophistry and chicanery, of party, faction, and division of society
~John Adams

A politician’s words reveal less about what he thinks about his subject than what he thinks about his audience
~George Will

How strangely will the tools of a tyrant pervert the plain meaning of words
~Samuel Adams

To read too many books is harmful

For the bureaucrat, the world is a mere object to be manipulated by him

Democracy is the road to socialism

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them

The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property

Adolf Hitler

What good fortune for governments that the people do not think

The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one

The broad masses of a population are more amenable to the appeal of rhetoric than to any other force

The art of leadership… consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention

All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach

By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise

I use emotion for the many and reserve reason for the few

Vladimir Lenin

A lie told often enough becomes the truth

When there is state there can be no freedom, but when there is freedom there will be no state

One man with a gun can control 100 without one

It is true that liberty is precious; so precious that it must be carefully rationed

Fascism is capitalism in decay

If today I stand here as a revolutionary, it is as a revolutionary against the Revolution

It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything

Print is the sharpest and the strongest weapon of our party

The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic

The only real power comes out of a long rifle

The writer is the engineer of the human soul

We don’t let them have ideas. Why would we let them have guns?

Democracy is indispensable to socialism

Barack Obama

I picked these quotes specifically because the words ring of socialism, that we must all be willing to be a part of something greater.  For those of us that work hard and already are, or will become successful, that means to sacrifice for everyone who will not work hard.  There are more people out there that will reduce themselves to the lowest common denominator if that means they can live on your back, for free.  They outnumber us.

I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody

If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists – to protect them and to promote their common welfare – all else is lost.

Issues are never simple. One thing I’m proud of is that very rarely will you hear me simplify the issues.

It’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

My administration is the only thing between you [CEO’s] and the pitchforks.

This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably.

We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times… and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.

What do you think a stimulus is? It’s spending – that’s the whole point! Seriously.

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.

I don’t care whether you’re driving a hybrid or an SUV. If you’re headed for a cliff, you have to change direction.

I don’t take a dime of their [lobbyist] money, and when I am president, they won’t find a job in my White House. (They have now. He hired two.)

George W. Bush

The creation of the Patriot Act and the manipulation of information surrounding the existence of WMD’s in Iraq are all ways that the government expanded control over our lives during these years.

Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, it’s just a god damned piece of paper!

A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there’s no question about it.

For diplomacy to be effective, words must be credible – and no one can now doubt the word of America.

I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but for predecessors as well.

The legislature’s job is to write law. It’s the executive branch’s job to interpret law.

To those of you who received honours, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the C students, I say you, too, can be president of the United States.

I don’t give a goddamn, I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.
