New California Law Regulates Babysitting – Requires you provide mandatory rest and meal breaks & Workers’ Compensation – Lawsuit for Non-Compliance – Welcome to BIG GOVERNMENT – You voted for it, now you get to live with it.

Do you see the quote by Thomas Jefferson at the top of my website under the blog name? The one that says, “by slow operations…perverts into tyranny.” Remember that. Since MOST of what I write about are those “slow operations” moving us towards “tyranny” and here is yet another one…

This new law will make all parents seriously consider hiring a babysitter ever again since failure to comply means the babysitter can sue you:

Under AB 889, household “employers” (aka “parents”) who hire a babysitter on a Friday night will be legally obligated to pay at least minimum wage to any sitter over the age of 18 (unless it is a family member), provide a substitute caregiver every two hours to cover rest and meal breaks, in addition to workers’ compensation coverage, overtime pay, and a meticulously calculated timecard/paycheck.

Failure to abide by any of these provisions may result in a legal cause of action against the employer including cumulative penalties, attorneys’ fees, legal costs and expenses associated with hiring expert witnesses, an unprecedented measure of legal recourse provided no other class of workers – from agricultural laborers to garment manufacturers. (On the bright side, language requiring an hour of paid vacation time for every 30 hours worked was amended out of the bill in the Senate.)

The unintended consequences of this law are tremendous including; requiring you to hire two babysitters when you only need one, creating a devastating blow to teen and elderly babysitters who will now lose money they desperately need in a state with 12% unemployment (25% for teens), a drop in restaurant patronage and a net benefit of zero to babysitters everywhere due to the minimum wage requirement.

Of course this law originated in San Fransisco, the new Soviet Union stronghold within the United States where all Communists go to live and work…errr…I mean live and leach…off of others, and tell others how to live their lives, and what should be in a Happy Meal and stuff.

First, how is a parent supposed to provide a substitute caregiver every two hours for rest and meal breaks? The only way to do that would be to hire two babysitters every time you need one so they can rotate. So California now requires you to hire TWO babysitters or be sued.

Second, teens who decide to work and earn an income and elderly people who are living on a fixed income will not be able to find babysitting jobs due to the horrendous legal requirements imposed by this bill. This will hurt young people who are already struggling to find a job in this economy and the elderly who are trying to survive.

Third, there will be a drop in restaurant patronage as parents choose to stay home more often rather than tangle with this high-risk law. This means less revenue for restaurants, which means they will need to cutback, raise prices to make up for the losses, or layoff workers.

Fourth, the minimum wage law, as all minimum wages laws do, increases unemployment. If I can only afford $50 a month for babysitting, then that is all I can afford. All a minimum wage does is make me cut back on how many hours I can afford of babysitting. For example, at $5 an hour, I can afford 10 hours of babysitting, so I can go out twice a month, for five hours each time, and use two different babysitters, one for each time I go out. But now at $8.00 an hour, the minimum wage, I can only afford 6 hours of babysitting, which means I will only go out once a month, and I don’t need the second babysitter anymore, thus she becomes unemployed.

Then consider that I need two babysitters at the same time to meet the mandatory break and rest requirements so now I can only afford three hours of babysitting, so that is all the babysitters will get. Then add in the workers comp I have to pay, and any overtime, and my time spent keeping records for the government, and you know what? I just won’t hire babysitters. I will either go out and bring the kid with me, or drive out of my way to have a family member watch him or put him in institutionalized care somewhere where he can be indoctrinated in pro-big government propaganda, rather than with an elderly neighbor or teen friend who desperately needs the money.

Wake up.

WAKE UP! Stop voting for Republicans and Democrats that believe in BIG GOVERNMENT! You are handing them your income, your future, your kids future, everyone’s future on a silver platter.

Inaction on your part is the same as compliance. ACT. LEARN. READ. EDUCATE YOURSELF. You are being lied to every day by our Government and the politicians and yet people continue to support income redistribution, class warfare, unaffordable social programs, the expansion of the military into every nook and cranny of the world and of Homeland Security into our homes, our phones, our emails, our pockets, our bags and our bodies. WAKE…UP…. This country is circling the drain and if you don’t act, you will live long enough to be flushed down with it and see, and live through, what happens to everything that’s flushed.

When will you all finally just get PISSED OFF, and do something? Join the movement against Big Government. ANY movement. Hell, if your name is Bill, call it the “Bill Movement,” I don’t care. Vote against any politician that supports more government, bigger government, more taxes, more social programs, ANYTHING that increases the size of government or raises the debt or the deficit.

As you’ve seen Ron Paul is being purposely ignored by the press despite his amazing turnouts and poll results. They actually SKIP his name even when he is coming in 2nd or 3rd place just to make sure YOU NEVER, EVER EVER, learn anything about him. Why? Because he WILL DO what is needed for this country. He will make the hard choices that return us to the greatness that we once were and there is NO WAY IN HELL the media or the leaching government incumbent politicians ever want you to learn about him.

They are SCARED of Ron Paul. They are. Why else would they actually skip over his name on poll results? Does that sound like how news is reported? To report on the first, third and fourth winners? Really? That is FEAR. That’s why. That why the leaching pro-Big Government politicians on both sides of the aisle hate him so much and hate any movement that supports him, that’s why they are getting vicious and calling any of his supporters names and cursing at them. They FEAR him. So you have to ask yourself, what are they so afraid of you knowing about that they will go to such great lengths to do that?

Arm yourself with knowledge. LEARN.
